Who is a Candidate for Dental Implants?

At Kucey Dental Group, serving patients from Sherwood Park and beyond, we are sometimes asked by patients whether or not they qualify for dental implants. The answer is that anyone missing 1 or more of their teeth due to injury, disease, decay, or congenitally missing a tooth is a candidate. Age is No Limit

If one or a few teeth are missing, dental implants in conjunction with a crown or fixed bridge can replace those teeth without losing more bone. If all or most of your teeth are missing, implants may be placed to replace a loose fitting complete or partial denture. Adequate bone in you jaw is needed to support the implants along with healthy gum tissues that are free of periodontal disease. Age is not a limitation. If you are healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, you are usually healthy enough to receive dental implants. Some chronic diseases may contraindicate implant treatment. We will evaluate your medical and health history to see if you are a candidate for dental implants before proceeding.

Are Dental Implants Safe?

Dental implants are small titanium “fixtures” that replace the natural root of the tooth. They are gently implanted into the bone using local anesthesia in a controlled surgical procedure. Once the titanium roots bond or integrate with the bone (osseointegration), they are more secure than natural tooth roots. Dental implants can support dental restorations custom designed and shaded to esthetically restore the smile. Titanium is biologically compatible with the human body. Conventional treatment time can vary between 3-12 months.  We also provide “Bar Attachment Dentures”.

Stages of Implant Treatment

The first step is a thorough examination and diagnosis with appropriate diagnostic tests including x-rays, diagnostic casts, and photographs. Later, once the treatment is confirmed, the implants are placed in the area. Healing time is 3-6 months, after which we can take final impressions to construct and deliver the final restoration. We recommend oral hygiene maintenance at 3-6 month intervals with daily oral hygiene maintenance to ensure the long-term success of dental implants. We will take area radiographs at regular intervals to ensure stability of the implants and make any necessary adjustments.

Are Dental Implants Successful?

Good oral hygiene is one of the most critical factors to ensure the health of your implants. Good overall health with control of systemic diseases will also be important.

How Much Will It Cost?

Fees for dental implant treatment depend on several factors, including the number of teeth being replaced, the number of implants required to support the replacement teeth, and any additional procedures to rebuild missing bone or gum tissue. Usually there is a surgical fee and a separate restoration fee. To obtain an accurate estimate, we recommend a thorough examination to provide the treatment best suited for you.
