Save Your Natural Teeth with a Root Canal

Root Canal Therapy

At Kucey Dental Group, we know how to recognize when a root canal is necessary, and we can refer you to a specialist in order to save your natural teeth. Root canals can also protect you against the need for implants or bridges. Learn more about root canals below, or contact us today to schedule an appointment.

What Is A Root Canal?

A root canal is a very common dental procedure. An endodontist is a dental specialist that provides root canal treatments, and we may refer you for this service.

At the center of your tooth is pulp (the nerve). Pulp is a collection of blood vessels and nerve tissues that help to give sensation to the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated trauma or dental procedures. Symptoms of an unhealthy pulp may include swelling, pain, sensitivity to temperature, pain on biting, and other symptoms.

How Is A Root Canal Performed?

If you experience any of these symptoms, we will most likely recommend root canal treatment to eliminate the diseased pulp. This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. We may refer you to dental specialists (endodontists) for the consultation and root canal treatment.

What Happens After Root Canal Treatment?

When your root canal therapy has been completed, a record of your treatment will be sent to us from the endodontist. You should contact us for a follow-up restoration within a few weeks of the root canal filling. Having the proper restoration of the tooth after the root canal is completed and continuing to practice good dental hygiene and prevention will help prevent further decay.
