Infection Control
Infection controls and universal precautions protect patients, doctors, and staff alike. Everyone benefits from meticulous infection control – you, your dentist, and the dental team. The cornerstone in a good and safe dental practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with Dr. Kucey, Registered Prosthodontist, and will receive a straightforward answer. Our entire team follows procedures approved and recommended by provincial (AB Dental Association and College) and national (Canadian Dental Association) organizations.
These measures include:
- Hand hygiene with disinfectant hand soap or alcohol sanitizers
- Gloves and face masks
- Chemical disinfection of countertops, surfaces, and equipment
- Sterilization of all instruments before every use with strict monitoring and recording of cycles
- Use of disposable materials and instruments whenever possible
We sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental hand pieces. We use hospital grade autoclaves, a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat and pressure which is monitored at every cycle and documented by our trained staff. The best defense against disease is information. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel.
