Maxillary Sinus Support Implants for Patients
Kucey Dental Group, serving Grande Prairie, AB, is proud to offer sinus grafting for patients in need of support for implant restorations. The maxillary sinuses are air pockets behind your cheeks and on top of the upper posterior teeth. Some of the roots of the upper teeth extend near and into the maxillary sinuses. When the upper teeth are removed, there is often an eggshell thin wall of bone separating the maxillary sinus and the mouth. Dental implants need bone to support them so when the sinus wall is thin, it is not possible to place dental implants.
There is a solution called a sinus graft where we can surgically enter the sinus from where the teeth used to be. The sinus membrane is repositioned and donor bone is placed to build the area. After appropriate healing of often 6-9 months, the grafted bone becomes part of the jaw and dental implants can be safely placed. The sinus graft makes it possible for patients to now have dental implants and have an option to loose dentures.
